At last…what does the ISI want from us?

In Iran, the library specialists always said to new librarians: “ISI is very very important for us. You should learn to use it because the ISI makes us better and stronger than other specialist.” They will return to golden age of librarians with a modern phenomenon in science. It’s a contrast.

I hope the ISI helps us…

Choose a name for your major

That is a subject of a mail. This mail was arriving in my inbox 3 weeks ago. Dr.fatahi that he’s manager of LIS (LIS is a discussion group in Iran about library and information science) sent it to me and other membership. He suggested 3 options as a new name. Such as:

1. Information management and library information science
   
2. Information management
   
3. Information science or knowledge management
   

    

We shall selected one of them but they weren’t good names. I think, we have a problem with essence of LIS. One of our teachers said: paper and glue engineering is a good name for our major. He was kidding. Finally, until further notice I tell you “I’m only librarian“.

Semantic search engine

Yesterday, my teacher said: search engines never can’t understand humans’ mean. So, semantic web is a lie. But I said him: excuse me sir, namely my idea was a dream? He answered: yes, maybe.

Today morning, I thought about my teacher’s idea and I thought about MR.bernersly. Modern search engines only can retrieval information on their data bases. Now if you don’t know search strategies, they show you many records about your question whereas some of them are wrong. In fact, there are many links on their result pages. So, the people don’t watch them. But semantic search engine can retrievals only one record or two records for us. Because it understands our question or problem. It’s wonderful. A semantic search engine based-on semantic web technology. So, it is a new generation of search engines but they don’t have existence. Maybe soon…

But what is the librarians’ role in semantic search engine?

They are leaders of searching activities and they are designers search engines.

Now, my teacher’s idea is true and my comment is true???

We had a Fantastic teacher in our faculty. He studied in France and learned many things about LIS. A at once he decided to come back to Iran. Because he was born in Iran about 32 years ago. But when he came back to his country, his townsmans didn’t accept him. At present he is incurable. He thinks about to be or not to be.

 

He is an elite. Is the act right?

The web effects on the libraries

The web has many effects on the libraries. Some the effects are good and some the effects are bad. The good effects are such as: 1- Speed 2- accuracy 3- quality and etc. but the worst effect is making patrons stupid. Yes, the web making them stupid. But why? The answer is very easy. When you are sitting behind The your pc then connect to the internet, in fact you are gathering information by the feeds on it so after the long time your brain is programmed by web. That’s too bad. So the libraries can’t use internet technologies and web because their patrons are became very stupid.

Librarianship in iran

Introduction: I’m alone librarian. I’m living in Iran. I’m studying at university of Tehran. Im 20 years old.

Librarianship in iran is fairly good but there aren’t smart manager for management librarianship.i think my country need to accurate programming with very money.this is my belief.i read your comment about librarianship in iran and development it in iran.
